KOMREDI KIPEPE

Philip Ndunguru
Komredi Kipepe is another classic Tanzanian comic character that has been adapted by modern publications such as Tabasamu, Bongo and Tunu. The stereotypical village dweller is shown in his village and in town where his broken Swahili (with a heavy Makonde accent) causes some misunderstandings. Komredi ('comrade') Kipepe is also the captain of a soccer team, Mabush Star, who play against the streetwise city dwellers of Born Town.

Kipepe: Your choice: should I hit you on the head or on the waist?
Tell me quickly before I loose my temper!
Hey! You...
Or should I just let you go?
